I'm wondering if it's okay to skip a moderate workout if you spend two or three hours working in the yard.

Biography

ColumnBorn in Toronto, now living in Calgary.  I've lived most of my life without thinking about exercise.  It's only now that I'm 37 that I've been paying more attention to what I eat, and I'm trying to get more active. Feels like I'm starting later than I should have, but I guess it's good to get into these habits as early as you can - I've got a few more decades in me.

I think it was partially about perception but also about reality. I think she was talking about the fact that people who are mindful eventually cultivate the ability to focus on what matters. I'd imagine if we all developed a filter where we really asked ourselves what was important in any one moment, we'd be able to do the same. We'd get more done because we'd worry less about things that are really insignificant (but can seem very important in the moment).

Starting small for big changes

It goes without saying that my slender frame needs a bit more meat on it.  One look at me tells you it's true.  But if I have 30 mins I can dedicate to exercise, I feel like I should be doing cardio instead of weights.  I'm going to look into this further and will post my findings - but any advice would be appreciated!
