Great video. I like that you included visuals of "what not to do". I hear lots of people complain about tight IT bands- what stretch would you do for that?

What was really cool to see was the diversity of people working out and their workouts. One guy was doing plyometric jumps between rows (very impressive), several people were running the stairs wearing weight vests, many were walking and socializing and 1 guy, flanked by 2 leashed dogs, was walking up the stairs and then doing a push-up on each row while his dogs caught up to him.

Staying Motivated When the Weather is Foul

Shut Up and Ride!

Yes, the Rihanna song is actually “Shut up and Drive” but, if she wasn’t so fixated on speed it very well could have been titled “Shut Up and Ride”.

Anyway, it is 8 degrees and raining and I just finished a 60 min. ride outside and I feel GREAT.  Here’s how to get out the door when the weather or your mood is mediocre and why you should do it.

How:

1.      Plan your rides...

Having a plan helps!

I passed a billboard yesterday that said:
"A goal without a plan is just a wish"

I completely agree with this statement.  I challenge you today to put a plan in place to accomplish 1 fitness goal this week.  For example, maybe you want to go for a ride or run this week.  Give thought to a plan...
  • What day will you go?
  • How long will the session be?
  • Where will you complete the session?
  • Will you complete solo or...

Tri-Diva-Tri race a success!

There was great weather this weekend for Leaping Dog Racing's Tri-Diva-Tri, women's only, supersprint triathon in Olds, AB. 254 ladies came out to compete in this early season, beginner friendly race. They swam 250m (10 lengths) in a pool, cycled 11k and then ran 2.5k to the finish. This is a great race for any ladies looking for a gentle way to enter the sport of triathlon.  Hope to see you there next year! Read More

Stair workout at the Red Rocks

Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado - Possibly the most scenic and challenging venue for a stair workout! If running stairs at 6500ft isn't challenging enough for you - add a weight vest! It was amazing to watch people work out here over the weekend.

Anyone else been here?

Go For a Swim!

Getting to a pool for a swim workout can often seem like a production.  Here are some tips to help with motivation:
  • Buy a new swim suit or swim cap. Something new and fun always makes swimming more exciting.
  • Meet a friend for the workout and grab a coffee afterwards. When someone is expecting your company you are more likely to show up.
  • Join an organized swim group. A coach, people and payment all keep you accountable.
